What do all millionaires have in common? Intentionality.
Consider this: After the Super Bowl each year, does the star quarterback of the winning team ever stumble up to the podium after the win of his lifetime, saying wearily, “I just got off the bus and good things happened”?
No!
The MVP of the game is jumping up and down in a joyous celebration. And why is this athlete excited? They might explain: ’ve been training since I was 6 years to achieve this victory!” A professional athlete’s moment of glory is not an accident — it is their reward for following through on an incredibly intentional process. That includes brutal practices daily, conditioning that pushes them, and unwavering commitment to healthy nutrition practices.
He wanted to achieve the peak of football performance, and he made sacrifices to get there. He had a roadmap for how he was going to become the player he sought to be.
This works in other areas of life, too. When you are intentional about following through on your workout routine, you get stronger! When you treat people with respect, your relationships are more fulfilling! And when you look at the lives of the wealthy, you find that the vast majority of them are and have been disciplined in following through with their financial plan.
Winning with money is no accident, either. Knowing what you want and how to get there is powerful. Henry Ford famously said, “If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right,” and the affluent validate this bold statement daily.
In the largest study of millionaires ever done by Ramsey Solutions, with over 10,000 participants, 97% of all millionaires shared this life-changing advice. Almost every millionaire, 97 freaking percent, believes that they could have become a millionaire if they weren’t one already.
These same people also declared that when they were young, in their teen and young adulthood years, they believed they could be millionaires someday. Nearly 100% of millionaires said this! These wealthy individuals believed they could accomplish millionaire status, worked their tails off while living life on a plan, and now they get to reap the rewards.
Some of you reading this are scratching your head, thinking, “I’ll never be a millionaire. I’ll never have assets. I’ll never have wealth.” I’m here to tell you that with that kind of attitude, you are absolutely correct. But if you instead tell yourself that you can build wealth and achieve financial freedom, you’ll have a much better chance of seeing it through.
If you’re hungry for success of any kind, regardless of whether that applies to money, getting awesome at a sport, having that career you’ve dreamed of, or treating people well in your life, when you make a plan and are intentional about following through on that plan, you succeed! Highlight it, underline it, circle it: you can accomplish anything when you have a plan for how you will accomplish your goal, and stay committed to your plan.
When you are determined to win, keep this crucial tip at the top of your mind: surround yourself with a network of people who have your shared vision and goals. When you have a strong support system and a community of like-minded people there to encourage you, you can do anything!
Let’s break it down:
- If you think you can, you’re right.
- Planning is a critical component of the success process. When you stay committed to a plan, you can do it!
- Surround yourself with like-minded people when you want to win at your finances, relationships, career, faith, or whatever else you want to accomplish!
